1x 2.0 USB port for Xbox wireless controller. To update USB Driver Updates for Windows 8.1 and 10. If your USB vendor is ASMedia, click here to check for updates on ASMedia's website. If your USB vendor is any other brand, click here to check for updates on Microsoft’s website. Make sure you install all required. There has been no hardware changes to my system and I have uninstalled and re-installed the USB 3.0 Host Controller (ASMedia XHCI Controller) to no avail. No, but ASMedia USB 3.0 eXtensible Host controller – 0.96 (Microsoft) and USB Root Hub (xHCI) appear below Universal Serial Bus controllers. Otherwise, look at the biggest chip and Google each line of text on the chip. You should find something that way. The product info that came with the card says it has a NEC UPD720200 chipset.

Are all ASMedia USB chipsets problematic?

I'm looking into a new motherboard, and I went through previous similar threads, from which the following can be summed up:

  1. Motherboards with ASMedia USB chipsets should be avoided (known to have problems with Vive)

  2. All motherboards with Z170 chipset should be fine

However, I'm seeing a lot of Z170 motherboards with ASMedia USB 3.1 controllers (in combination with another Intel's USB controller on the same board), so I'm a bit uneasy to proceed without checking with you guys first. Are these mobos the problematic ones, or does the bogus ASMedia chipset refer to some older one?
